Enzo Maresca's reign at Manchester City has begun this week with his first training session. His first competitive game will be on August 16 against Arsenal in the Community Shield in Cardiff, followed by a Premier League opener against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium a week later.
Guardiola, Pellegrini start with wins
Pep Guardiola's first competitive match was a 2-1 win over Sunderland on the opening day of the 2016/17 season, secured by a late Paddy McNair own goal. Guardiola said: "It was tough for everybody and that is why people say the Premier League is tough."
Manuel Pellegrini started his tenure in August 2013 with a convincing 4-0 thrashing of Newcastle, with goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri.
Mancini, Hughes, Eriksson also victorious
Roberto Mancini, one of only two permanent City managers this century to start mid-season, began with a Boxing Day win over Stoke in 2009, thanks to Martin Petrov and Carlos Tevez.
Mark Hughes and Sven-Goran Eriksson both won their first games 2-0, a year apart. Hughes' men beat EB/Streymur in UEFA Cup qualification, while Eriksson's side beat West Ham at Upton Park in 2007.
Pearce only loser; Keegan started in second tier
Stuart Pearce is the only City manager to lose his first game in the 21st Century, going down 2-1 at Tottenham in March 2005.
Kevin Keegan, who sadly passed away this week, began his City tenure in the First Division (now the Championship) with a 3-0 win over Watford at Maine Road.
