John Higgins provided some light relief during the World Championship final on Monday night, joking that he had consumed too much haggis after failing to reach the cue ball. The 41-year-old Scot struggled to stretch for the white ball with the match poised at 16-15, prompting him to climb down from the table and fetch an extension.
Returning to the table, Higgins quipped: "Too much Haggis!" to the amusement of the Crucible Theatre crowd. The four-time champion's humour, however, could not halt Mark Selby's resurgence. Selby, 33, trailed 10-4 before winning nine of the next ten frames to clinch an 18-15 victory.
Despite the defeat, Higgins' self-deprecating remark added a moment of levity to an otherwise tense final. Selby's comeback marks his third World Championship title, while Higgins remains on four.
