Harry Maguire has expressed his hope that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will return to England to manage in the Premier League again. The Manchester United defender was brought to Old Trafford by Solskjaer and still holds him in high regard.
Maguire's glowing praise
Speaking to Dagbladet, Maguire said: "He was a fantastic manager and a lovely person. He is a great legend at the club, and everyone has great respect for him."
"He was an important part of my career. He brought me to the club and I am forever grateful that our paths crossed in my career. When he is in Manchester, we try to meet if our schedules allow it."
"I talk to him here and there. He always gives me some advice and he was fantastic with me when he was boss here. A brilliant person sums up the Englishman. He knew how to get the best out of people. He was always available and knew how to talk to the players."
"At this club there is always so much pressure, so having a manager who is so welcoming and makes you feel comfortable and confident is incredibly important."
Hope for a return
When asked if he could see Solskjaer returning to the Premier League, Maguire said: "I hope he comes back. He should, because he is a fantastic manager and I think it will be a success wherever he goes."
"At the same time, he is a happy family man and also follows his children, but it would have been nice to see him back on the sidelines. If not, he is probably happy with what he is doing now."
Solskjaer's recent career
Solskjaer was last in work with Besiktas last year, but he was considered for the Manchester United interim job in January. United hired Michael Carrick instead, who picked up more points than any other top-flight manager in what remained of the season, finishing third and securing Champions League football with three games to spare. Carrick was announced as the permanent United boss before the final day of the campaign.
United played in Norway last weekend and Carrick used the trip to meet up with Solskjaer. Although Carrick beat Solskjaer to the interim United job, the pair remain close and sources said Solskjaer was in good form.
Solskjaer was sacked from his most recent job at Besiktas after being knocked out of the Europa League and the Conference League play-off round, leaving the Turkish club without European football. The Norwegian has been regularly linked with a return to the Premier League since his United exit in 2021.
