Viktor Gyokeres Vows Arsenal Will Bounce Back After Carabao Cup Final Defeat
Viktor Gyokeres has declared that Arsenal will emerge from their Carabao Cup final heartbreak with renewed motivation to end the club's six-year trophy drought. The Gunners suffered a stinging defeat to rivals Manchester City at Wembley, missing a key opportunity to secure silverware.
Treble Ambitions Remain Alive Despite Setback
Despite the disappointment, Arsenal's season is far from over. The team remains nine points clear at the top of the Premier League and has advanced to the quarter-finals of both the FA Cup and the Champions League, keeping hopes of a remarkable Treble alive. However, the loss to Manchester City, who have overtaken Arsenal in the title race in two of the last three seasons, serves as a stark reminder of the challenges ahead.
Gyokeres emphasised the team's resilience, stating: "Of course, we don't feel great right now but it's not like we have a game in three days, it's a few weeks or something until the next one. But, for sure, we will go again and be even more motivated for those games."
Injury Concerns and Squad Depth Tested
Arsenal faced the final without key players Jurrien Timber and Eberechi Eze due to injuries. Captain Martin Odegaard is expected to return after the international break, and Timber is optimistic about a quick recovery. However, Eze's thigh injury is a significant concern, likely ruling him out of England's upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan.
Gyokeres expressed confidence in the squad's depth, saying: "The ones who played instead of those two did well. I think we have a great squad and of course it helps when you have everyone fit and yeah, that's what we want. They weren't available at Wembley and yeah, it is what it is."
Analyzing the Final: Small Margins and Momentum Shifts
The Sweden international admitted that the final was decided by fine margins, with Manchester City gaining control early in the second half. Arsenal created promising chances early in the game but struggled to maintain momentum after the break.
Gyokeres reflected on the match: "We created some chances at the beginning of the game then I think it was maybe 10 minutes from the break, where they got the momentum. I think they had the ball, maybe they didn't create so many dangerous chances but they had the ball a long time and it looked the same in the second half. It was close. Normally when it's two top teams it can be like that."
With the international break providing a pause, Arsenal must regroup to pursue their first Premier League title in 22 years. Gyokeres' vow underscores the team's determination to transform disappointment into success across multiple competitions.
