Joleon Lescott has claimed that Pep Guardiola was more emotional than he has ever seen him after Phil Foden's goal secured Manchester City's place in the Champions League semi-finals. Foden's strike gave City a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund on the night and a 4-2 aggregate victory, ending the club's recent quarter-final hoodoo.
Speaking on BT Sport, former City defender Lescott said: 'That's the most emotional I've seen him, even after Phil Foden walked away. To see that just shows the camaraderie in this squad and what it means. We know this is the sought-after competition that City want but that moment, for him to have to rely on Phil Foden to save the day again is remarkable.'
Despite trailing 1-0 at half-time, City produced a strong second-half display. Lescott admitted he was nervous at the break but praised the team's resilience. 'Obviously I'm relieved. I was nervous at half-time more so but again they've come good. The players stepped up and created big moments and I'm pleased for Phil,' he added.
Fellow pundit Owen Hargreaves believes the victory sets up City's charge for an unprecedented quadruple. 'It is on - now they can find a way to win games when they're not playing at their absolute best. I think that's going to be huge for their confidence and Pep will deep down believe they can win all four,' he said.
