Everton have completed the season-long loan signing of Jack Grealish from Manchester City, with the move costing the club more than £12m in wages and fees. The 29-year-old midfielder had fallen out of favour under Pep Guardiola and was omitted from City's Club World Cup squad and England's European Championship squad last summer.
Manager David Moyes expressed confidence that Grealish can rediscover his best form at Goodison Park. 'I think we're getting him at a good time because he's experienced, he understands the Premier League, and we're all fully aware of the levels he's capable of performing to,' Moyes said. 'I know Jack's ambition is to get back into the England squad so hopefully we can help him achieve that over the course of the season.'
Grealish turned down offers from Napoli and other clubs to join Everton, citing the influence of Moyes and the passionate fanbase. 'As soon as I spoke to the manager, I knew there was only one place that I wanted to go,' he said. 'On social media, I've been flooded with messages from Everton supporters... I hope I can repay you now.'
Grealish will wear the No 18 shirt, previously worn by his idols Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne. He confirmed he spoke to Rooney about the number before finalising the move. The midfielder is expected to make his debut in Everton's Premier League opener at Leeds on Monday.
