Italian Golfer Andrea Pavan Seriously Injured in Freak Lift Shaft Fall
Distressing new details have emerged regarding the serious accident that left Italian professional golfer Andrea Pavan with multiple injuries after a terrifying fall down a lift shaft. The 36-year-old, a two-time winner on the DP World Tour, is understood to have plummeted two or three floors in what has been described as a freak incident at his private accommodation in Stellenbosch, South Africa.

The accident occurred ahead of the South African Open, a tournament Pavan has now been forced to withdraw from due to his injuries. According to reports, the lift doors opened without the lift car itself being present, leading Pavan to step forward into the empty shaft without realising the car was not there. This resulted in a harrowing fall that has left the golfer requiring significant medical treatment.
In a statement released by the DP World Tour on Friday, Pavan revealed that he underwent surgery on his shoulder and back on Wednesday evening and is currently recovering in hospital. I had surgery on my shoulder and my back on Wednesday evening and I am currently recovering in hospital, Pavan said. He expressed gratitude for the care received from Mediclinic hospital staff and the support from tour officials.

Pavan acknowledged the challenging road ahead, stating, I now have a lot of rehab and hard work ahead of me, but emphasised the incredible support he has received. His former college coach, JT Higgins, told Golf Channel that Pavan is in good spirits and thankful to be alive, even FaceTiming with his children from hospital.
The golfer's wife, Audra, has travelled from Texas to be by his side, and numerous players, caddies, and staff have visited or contacted him during this difficult time. Pavan extended his thanks, saying, Grazie mille everyone, from me, my wife Audra, and my entire family.
