Goalkeeper devastated after opponent dies in collision

Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono has been left devastated following the death of opponent Jesus De Miguel, who passed away after a collision during a Spanish second division match. De Miguel, a Tenerife forward, suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and was rushed to hospital, where his condition worsened. His passing was confirmed on Tuesday morning.

Tenerife confirms tragic passing

In a statement, Tenerife said: "Racked with pain, with a lump in our throats and unable to believe that this is true, from CD Tenerife we communicate the tragic passing, this Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8:00 a.m., of Jesús de Miguel Alameda."

The club added: "There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome."

The family of Jesús de Miguel thanked each and every one of the expressions of support received, and likewise requested, from the heart, the utmost respect for their privacy in these terrible moments, reports the Mirror.

Goalkeeper reportedly distraught

Spanish outlet AS reports that Owono was "crying and praying" in the dressing room following the final whistle, and was said to be 'visibly shaken' throughout the journey back to Andorra. He has since deleted his Instagram account after reportedly being bombarded with abusive messages.

It is understood that Owono had intended to reach out to De Miguel and his family to offer his apologies and support before making any public statement, however the 30-year-old's passing has altered the circumstances. Those close to the goalkeeper told AS: "He is a caring, very kind person. He has no malice."

The club confirmed that the collision was entirely unintentional, with Owono having no desire to harm his opponent. Video footage captures the goalkeeper turning to check on the stricken player while others looked away, visibly distressed by what had occurred.

Club and career details

Spanish reports claimed that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and was resuscitated before being rushed to hospital, where he was placed in intensive care.

In a statement, Andorra said: "With broken hearts and devastated, we want to send our most sincere condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, to all his teammates, friends, and to CD Tenerife."

The forward had joined Tenerife from fellow Spanish club Castellón during the summer of 2025. During the current season, he had made six appearances, all of which came from the substitutes' bench.
