The incident occurred around the halfway line when de Miguel attempted to bring down a ball played over the defence. Owono was sent off for the challenge, becoming the third player dismissed in the closing stages, with each team having a player sent off earlier.

Andorra also issued a statement, saying: "There are no words of comfort; there is absolutely nothing that can alleviate this feeling overflowing with sadness. We stand alongside his devastated family, alongside his loved ones, alongside all of tinerfeñismo that today weeps for this cruel outcome."

Goalkeeper's Reaction

According to reports from AS, a Spanish publication, Owono was 'crying and praying' in the dressing room after the game and was 'visibly shaken' throughout the journey back to Andorra. After reportedly being flooded with messages of abuse, Owono deleted his Instagram account.

The publication claims that prior to news of de Miguel's death, Owono had planned to contact his family to apologise and offer his support before making any public statement. Those close to the goalkeeper told AS: "He is a caring, very kind person. He has no malice." Video footage of the collision shows that Owono immediately checked to see if de Miguel was okay, and Andorra said the collision was unintentional.
