Oliver Glasner's future at Crystal Palace has been cast into further uncertainty, with midfielder Adam Wharton admitting the club must act quickly to secure the Austrian's long-term services. Glasner, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park, revealed last week that he has yet to be offered a new deal.
The 50-year-old continues to be linked with the Manchester United job, where Ruben Amorim is under mounting pressure despite a 2-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday. Speaking to the Austrian edition of Kicker, Glasner refused to rule out a move to Old Trafford, saying: "I follow all the rumours - and that's all there is - neutrally and completely relaxed. Focusing on the daily work with my players and coaches, and trying to enjoy it as much as possible."
Wharton, however, is hopeful Glasner will stay. "Obviously there is always speculation with people's contracts coming up, but you've seen the impact he's had here and the way we are playing, so the longer he stays, the better I think," he said.
Meanwhile, Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount has insisted the squad remains fully behind Amorim. "We're 100% behind the gaffer," Mount said after the Sunderland victory. "We've had some results that hurt us - the team, the staff and the fans - but that was important today. It needs to be the start of building something."
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, however, believes Amorim's dismissal is inevitable. "I don't like saying a manager should be sacked – it's disrespectful and it's a man's job – but I'm at that point where I do think Ruben Amorim's job is untenable," Carragher said on The Overlap Fan Debate. "It's inevitable that this is going to happen before Christmas. His stats are unbelievable for a Manchester United manager – 50 games as Manchester United manager, he's only scored two more goals than he's conceded."
