Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has announced he will make a final decision on his future in the coming weeks, as speculation intensifies over a potential move to Manchester United.
Contract Talks Set to Intensify
The Austrian coach, whose current deal at Selhurst Park expires in June 2026, revealed that discussions over a new contract will now accelerate. Glasner had previously cited a hectic December fixture list as a reason for delaying talks.
"I think in the next weeks, we will intensify the talks," Glasner stated ahead of Palace's midweek match against Aston Villa. He indicated that a conclusion is expected soon, adding, "I expect to find a final decision."
Manchester United's Interest Looms Large
Glasner's contractual situation has placed him firmly on the radar of Manchester United. The Old Trafford club, seeking a long-term successor to Ruben Amorim, have identified the Europa League-winning manager as a top candidate.
The 51-year-old, who led Eintracht Frankfurt to European glory before guiding Crystal Palace to a historic FA Cup triumph in 2025, is seen as a proven winner and effective communicator. His tactical approach, which features a variation of a 3-4-3 system, is another point of consideration for United.
Despite the mounting links, Glasner remains outwardly unfazed. "There has been speculation since I arrived. So, believe me, I don't really care about it," he commented during a lengthy press conference.
"A Contract Doesn't Guarantee Your Future"
In a revealing insight into modern football's transient nature, Glasner downplayed the significance of a long-term deal. He used the example of Palace's new record signing, Brennan Johnson, to illustrate his point.
Johnson joined for £35 million in January 2026 on a four-and-a-half-year contract. Glasner pragmatically noted that even such a commitment offers no certainty, suggesting the forward could be sold for a "massive fee" in the summer if he performs well.
"For me, the length of a contract in these times doesn't say anything about your future," Glasner asserted. He emphasised that players sign for a club's vision, not solely for a manager.
The Eagles' boss also confirmed that potential player sales, including that of captain Marc Guehi who could depart in January or the summer, would not influence his own decision on whether to stay or go.
Glasner, who replaced Roy Hodgson in February 2024, is currently the eighth longest-serving manager in the Premier League. His future remains one of the most intriguing stories of the season as the campaign enters its decisive phase.
