BBC presenter Gabby Logan has embarked on a significant new charitable venture, becoming an official ambassador for the Bloomsbury Football Foundation. This appointment arrives just months after she assumed co-hosting duties on the flagship football highlights programme, Match of the Day.
A New Role Beyond the Studio
Logan, 52, joined Mark Chapman and Kelly Cates as part of the presenting trio for Match of the Day and its Champions League counterpart following Gary Lineker's departure at the close of the 2024/25 season. While maintaining her broadcasting commitments, including work with Amazon Prime, she has now aligned with the London-based charity.
Her core mission as an ambassador will be to support the foundation's ambitious target of engaging over 20,000 young people in football by 2028, with at least half of that number being girls. Logan will attend fundraising events and witness the charity's programmes in action on the ground.
Inspired by Lionesses' Legacy
In a statement announcing her involvement, Logan directly referenced the transformative impact of the England women's team. She highlighted the Lionesses' historic defence of their European Championship title in Switzerland, which marked the first time any senior England side had won a major tournament on foreign soil.
"Witnessing first-hand the rapid growth of women’s football and the Lionesses’ historic success over the years has further strengthened my commitment to championing equal opportunities in sport," Logan said. "I’m delighted to be supporting Bloomsbury Football Foundation’s mission in helping more young girls across London access the transformative power of football."
Foundation's Broader Impact
Bloomsbury Football Foundation, established in 2018, worked with approximately 5,000 youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds in London as of summer 2024. Its initiatives extend beyond mainstream football, including support for blind football, collaborations with La Liga, and dedicated sessions for refugees and asylum seekers.
Founder and CEO Charlie Hyman welcomed Logan's appointment, citing her career-long advocacy for equality in sport. "Welcoming Gabby as an ambassador is another significant step in supporting our goal to increase female participation across our programmes," Hyman stated. He emphasised that for the foundation, football acts as a "vehicle" for broader personal development.
The charity's refugee programme has been supported by former England Under-21 international Fabrice Muamba, who himself came to the UK as a refugee.
