Josh King has won Fulham's Goal of the Month award for August for a strike that was controversially disallowed by VAR during the Premier League defeat at Chelsea.
The teenage midfielder thought he had scored his first senior goal in the 2-0 loss at Stamford Bridge, but VAR ruled it out for a foul by Rodrigo Muniz on Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up. The decision was widely criticised, with Fulham boss Marco Silva saying: 'How you disallow a goal like that is unbelievable.'
Despite the goal not counting, Fulham fans voted King's effort as their goal of the month with a whopping 83.1 per cent of the vote, easily beating other contenders. The club described it as a 'magnificent strike' and highlighted the skill of the effort.
PGMOL chief refereeing officer Howard Webb later described the decision as a 'misjudgement', and VAR official Michael Salisbury was subsequently stood down from his role for Liverpool's win over Arsenal. Webb added that VAR interventions have become less frequent in the Premier League over the last 18 months.
