The second day of the 2026 French Open at Roland Garros saw top seed Iga Swiatek deliver a commanding performance to defeat Britain's Katie Boulter in straight sets. The Polish world number one showcased her trademark clay-court prowess, winning 6-2, 6-1 in just over an hour.
Swiatek Dominates Boulter
Swiatek, a three-time champion in Paris, was in imperious form from the outset. She broke Boulter's serve early in the first set and never looked back. The 24-year-old's heavy topspin forehand proved too much for Boulter, who struggled to find her rhythm on the slow clay.
Boulter, ranked 27th, fought valiantly but could not cope with Swiatek's intensity. The British number one saved two break points in the second set but ultimately succumbed to the relentless pressure. Swiatek sealed the match with a crisp backhand winner down the line.
De Minaur Advances
In the men's draw, Australian Alex de Minaur booked his place in the second round with a gritty victory over French wildcard Martin Jodar. De Minaur, seeded 11th, won 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 in a match that featured several lengthy rallies.
Jodar, a 21-year-old making his Grand Slam debut, impressed with his athleticism and court coverage. However, de Minaur's experience proved decisive as he broke Jodar's serve three times in the third set to close out the match.
De Minaur will next face either Diego Schwartzman or a qualifier, as he seeks to improve on his best Roland Garros performance of reaching the fourth round in 2023.
Other Results
Elsewhere on day two, several seeds progressed without major scares. In the women's draw, fourth seed Elena Rybakina dispatched local hope Clara Burel 6-3, 6-2. Meanwhile, men's sixth seed Andrey Rublev overcame a stubborn challenge from Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, winning 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-3.
The tournament continues on Wednesday with second-round matches, including Novak Djokovic's first appearance on court against a qualifier. Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is also scheduled to play his opening match.
