Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson and his players would 'go to war' during in-house general knowledge quizzes on Champions League away trips. The Uruguayan, who spent two and a half years at Old Trafford, shared the insight in an interview with MUFC media.
Forlan recalled that the quizzes pitted the players against the coaching staff, including Sir Alex and captain Roy Keane. 'It was a war! You could say everything there. It was really, really funny,' he said. The questions often centred on UK knowledge, giving an advantage to British players like Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, and Nicky Butt.
Forlan, who scored only ten Premier League goals for United before excelling at Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, added that both sides were fiercely competitive. 'The manager, he didn't want to lose, you know? The players less. So imagine all the things we could say there in that battle,' he said.
