FA Cup first round draw: Tranmere and Marine await opponents

The FA Cup first round draw takes place on Monday evening, with Tranmere Rovers and Marine AFC among the teams learning their opponents.

The draw, scheduled for around 6.35pm, will be conducted by Martin Keown and Fara Williams, with Matt Smith overseeing proceedings.

Teams in the hat

A total of 48 sides from League One and League Two join 32 non-league teams in the draw, making up the 80 clubs competing in the first round proper.

Tranmere Rovers are one of the clubs awaiting their first opponents in this season's competition. They are joined in the hat by Marine AFC, who secured their place with a 2-0 away win against Hartlepool United in the fourth qualifying round on Saturday. That victory marked their third game in the FA Cup so far this season.

Potential opponents

Possible opponents for either Tranmere or Marine include 2021 winners Leicester City, who are in the first round for just the second time. Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic and Huddersfield Town, all previous winners of the tournament, could also feature as opponents.

The draw marks the stage where League One and League Two sides enter the competition, joining the non-league qualifiers who have progressed through earlier rounds.
