Fabio Borini is among nine players set to leave Salford City following their failure to secure promotion to League One. The League Two side fell short at Wembley last month, losing 3-0 to Notts County in the play-off final.
The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward joined Salford in October on a short-term deal, which was later extended to the end of the season. During his spell, Borini made 33 appearances across all competitions and scored five goals.
Salford manager Karl Robinson had praised Borini's contribution, describing him as "hard-working, relentless" and saying he "embodies everything that we’re trying to do." The 35-year-old Italian earned one cap for his country in 2012.
Borini began his career at Chelsea before playing for Swansea, Roma, Liverpool, Sunderland, AC Milan, Hellas Verona, Fatih Karagümrük and Sampdoria. His release is part of a wider squad overhaul at the Peninsula Stadium.
