Former Tottenham and QPR midfielder Andy Sinton is recovering in hospital after suffering a heart attack on Friday evening, his former club Queens Park Rangers has announced. The 59-year-old, who earned 12 caps for England and featured at Euro 1992, is said to be on the road to recovery.
QPR released a statement on social media confirming the news: 'On Friday evening, our club ambassador, Andy Sinton suffered a heart attack. We are pleased to say he is now recovering in hospital. Please join us in wishing Sints well.' Tottenham also sent their best wishes, posting: 'Get well soon, Andy. Sending the best wishes of all your Spurs family.'
The news came in the wake of QPR's heavy 7-1 defeat to Coventry City, with fans quick to put the result into perspective. One supporter wrote: 'And suddenly losing 7-1 is put in perspective. Get well soon Andy, we all send our love to you!' Another added: 'Puts everything into perspective. I was raging about the result yesterday but reading this about my first ever QPR idol makes yesterday irrelevant.'
Sinton began his career at Cambridge United before moving to Brentford and then QPR in 1989, where he spent four years. He later played 83 times for Tottenham, winning the League Cup in 1999, and also represented Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves. After retiring, he managed Fleet Town and AFC Telford, and has since worked as a QPR ambassador and commentator.
