Hollywood star Ewan McGregor made a World Cup rallying cry after being enlisted to help announce the Scotland squad for next month's tournament. The Trainspotting and Star Wars actor, 57, declares in a stirring video that his homeland is an 'easy country to love' and it is in football 'where the heart beats loudest'.
McGregor's Battle Cry
In his battle cry ahead of the national side's first game against Haiti on June 14, Perth-born McGregor – who is married to actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead – declares: 'Scotland you beautiful, unbreakable place. After 28 long summers the world will finally hear your voice again.'
At the end of the short film, which features clips of Scottish scenery and fans young and old, the Scottish Football Association (SFA) unveils the men the nation will be pinning their hopes on to win football's top prize.
The Squad
The 26-strong squad includes Aston Villa player John McGinn, Liverpool FC's Andy Robertson, and Wrexham AFC's Dom Hyam. Hearts goalkeeper Craig Gordon and Scotland hero Scott McTominay are also named.
Scotland secured a place in the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998 after a 4-2 victory over Denmark at Hampden in November. Since then, there has been feverish speculation as to whom Steve Clarke would take to North America – and at the end of the clip, fans finally had their answer.
Broadcast Plans
Meanwhile, STV has announced its plans for the tournament – with Scotland v Morocco to be shown on the network on June 19. Ally McCoist will be part of the network's commentary team.
Earlier this year, McGregor's ex-wife Eve Mavrakis put the Los Angeles mansion they once shared on the rental market – five years after she was awarded the £4.5 million property during their divorce. The Trainspotting star, 55, and French production designer Mavrakis, 59, who split in 2017, purchased the home for just under £1.5 million in 2002. The monthly rent on the property is a whopping £41,000.
