Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored twice in the second half as Everton came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage. The midfielder equalised in the 75th minute and then forced Bernd Leno’s own goal eight minutes later to complete a dramatic turnaround.
Fulham had dominated the first half and took the lead through an unfortunate own goal from Vitalii Mykolenko. Jordan Pickford pushed a shot from Raúl Jiménez onto the left-back and the ball went in. Samuel Chukwueze hit the bar, while Jiménez and Harry Wilson also wasted good chances.
“We should have four more goals,” said Fulham manager Marco Silva. “The game should be over at half-time. Second half, we stopped doing the right things.”
Everton improved after the break, with James Garner, Dewsbury-Hall and Idrissa Gueye taking control in midfield. Mykolenko broke free down the left and picked out Dewsbury-Hall, whose shot squirmed past Leno to level the scores. The winner came from a corner, with Dewsbury-Hall’s inswinging cross palmed into his own net by the Fulham goalkeeper.
Everton manager David Moyes watched from the new Riverside Stand and joked: “I had a wee swim when I was up there.” Silva was less amused, admitting Fulham lacked bravery after the break.
