England to Face Italy and Germany in Nations League Group Stage

England have been drawn against Italy and Germany in the group stage of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League, setting up rematches of their recent European Championship encounters. The Three Lions will face Italy, who defeated them in the Euro 2020 final on penalties, and Germany, whom they beat in the last 16 of that tournament.

The draw for League A Group 3 also includes Hungary, with the group winner advancing to the Nations League finals and the bottom-placed team being relegated to League B. England's campaign is scheduled to begin in June 2022, with the final two matchdays in September 2022, and the finals taking place in June 2023.

England's last competitive win over Germany came in the Euro 2020 last 16, a 2-0 victory at Wembley. Their most recent trip to Hungary was marred by racist abuse directed at England players, while Hungarian fans were involved in clashes with stewards and police during a World Cup qualifier in London.

Wales, promoted to League A, have been drawn with Netherlands, Poland, and Belgium in Group A4. Holders France will face Austria, Croatia, and Denmark. Portugal and Spain head Group A2 alongside Switzerland and Czech Republic.

In League B, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland are both in Group B1 with Ukraine and Armenia. The top 12 Nations League teams that do not automatically qualify for Euro 2024 will have the chance to compete for the final three places via a play-off.
