England recorded their biggest-ever win at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday, thrashing China 8-0 in a women's international friendly. Georgia Stanway scored a hat-trick, becoming the first Lionesses midfielder to achieve the feat at the national stadium. The victory also marked Sarina Wiegman's 50th win as England manager.
The Lionesses broke the record they set before the Euros with a 6-0 win over Portugal. Beth Mead, who also scored, said: 'Nice to see lots of different goalscorers and different people getting minutes.' England were dominant throughout, with Alessia Russo and Ella Toone among the other goalscorers.
China struggled to cope with England's intensity and had few chances. Goalkeeper Khiara Moorhouse had little to do, making her only save of the evening in the 87th minute. The visitors made a triple substitution in the second half but could not stem the flow of goals.
Stanway, who rarely scores, told ITV: 'I am not known for scoring goals at the moment so I will take that, I am happy with that.' Wiegman praised her side's ruthlessness: 'We want to be more ruthless in the final third and I think that is what we did today.'
The match was played in front of a sold-out crowd at Wembley. England's next game is against Ghana on Tuesday.
