Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is reportedly ready to sell star striker Ollie Watkins in order to finance a move for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson. Emery previously worked with Jackson at Villarreal before the Senegal international moved to Stamford Bridge for £32 million.
Jackson, 24, signed an eight-year contract with Chelsea, who are holding out for an £80 million fee. Villa would need to cash in on Watkins, 29, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United. The England striker is said to be unsettled and keen for a fresh challenge.
Emery has alternative targets, including RB Leipzig's Lois Openda, who would cost around £40 million. However, Jackson remains the priority, with Villa hoping Chelsea may reduce their asking price after bringing in Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, and nearing a deal for Xavi Simons.
Jackson has faced criticism for his goal return at Chelsea, scoring 17 in his first season and 13 last campaign. When asked about competition from new signings, he said: 'Competition? I have no competition. We’re all here to help the club. I’m on a mission.' He added: 'I’m a Chelsea player. The future belongs to God. If there are any changes, you’ll know.'
