Harvey Elliott Rejects Chelsea Move, Commits to Liverpool

RB Leipzig have made an approach for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott as they look to replace Xavi Simons, who is set to join Chelsea for over £60 million. The German club have contacted Liverpool and are in talks with the 22-year-old to convince him of their project.

Elliott, a boyhood Liverpool fan, is reluctant to leave his dream club but is open to a move if it guarantees more regular first-team football. At Anfield, he faces increased competition following the arrival of Florian Wirtz, while Jeremie Frimpong can also cover for Mohamed Salah on the right flank.

Leipzig are preparing to sell Simons to Chelsea and striker Benjamin Sesko for over £70 million, with Manchester United and Newcastle vying for his signature. The Bundesliga side hope to use these funds to lure Elliott away from Merseyside.

Former England international Jermain Defoe urged Elliott to seek regular playing time after his standout performances for England Under-21s at the European Championship. Speaking on Channel 4, Defoe said: 'He’s too good to not be playing. He just needs to go out and play, get himself in a team where he’s one of the main players.'

Joe Cole echoed those sentiments, adding: 'I love the lad. He plays football the right way. If he decides to move on, I still feel there’s levels for him to go up again.'
