Eddie Howe is expected to reject management proposals from Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham this summer, according to reports. The 48-year-old parted ways with Newcastle United this summer following a five-year stint with the club, succeeded by Matthias Jaissle.
Howe's Newcastle Exit and Current Status
While Newcastle fans hold fond memories of Howe, who guided the club to consistent Champions League qualification and their first domestic title in almost 56 years with the 2025 Carabao Cup, the atmosphere grew frosty toward the Englishman toward the end of his tenure. Howe was only able to inspire a 12th-place finish last season, and his pulling power regarding player sales diminished over the summer, with Newcastle cashing in on Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes.
Howe decided to move on from the club, with Jaissle arriving as his successor shortly afterward. Jaissle has endured a mixed start to 2026/27, with Newcastle sitting 11th in the league standings with two wins, two draws and three losses from their opening seven games. Howe, meanwhile, has been enjoying a break from management following five years of work at St James' Park.
Interest from Premier League Clubs
Football Insider report that Everton, Crystal Palace and Fulham could make approaches for the Premier League-proven manager this season, amid uncertainty regarding their own leadership. David Moyes' contract at Everton expires at the end of the current campaign, putting pressure on the Scot to impress at Hill Dickinson Stadium. Pierre Sage and Alvaro Arbeloa are also under pressure at Palace and Fulham, who sit 14th and 18th respectively after seven games played.
Howe's Likely Response
However, according to ex-Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown, Howe will have no intention of returning to another mid-table club for his next assignment. Brown explained: "Eddie Howe is still out of work, so I expect he will be linked with almost every job that comes up."
"Whether it's Crystal Palace, Fulham, even Everton if Moyes leaves, he is going to be tipped as a contender for all of those jobs because of how highly regarded he is. But I can't see Eddie Howe going to a mid-table club like Palace or Fulham at the moment, I expect he's going to be aiming a bit higher, with all due respect to those clubs."
"I'm sure they would consider the possibility, but at the moment I think he would turn down any offers that came his way unless it was a really big job. He'll be looking to take over at a top club because look where he was with Newcastle, he had them playing in the Champions League, so that's where he will want to stay."
Brown added: "It's difficult for clubs like Palace, because where do they look for these top managers? They've tried something outside the box with Sage and it hasn't worked out for them. But when you're struggling to win games, it's also hard to attract top managers, and Howe isn't likely to be taking over there."
