DeChambeau's Embarrassing Bunker Fall Goes Viral at LIV Golf Singapore
Bryson DeChambeau has become an internet sensation after suffering a humiliating tumble into a bunker during the third round of the LIV Golf event in Singapore. The Saudi-backed breakaway tour is hosting a $30 million tournament at Sentosa Golf Club, while the PGA Tour's elite compete in The Players Championship in Florida.
A Slippery Situation on the Fifth Hole
On the fifth hole, DeChambeau played his second shot with his feet precariously positioned near the edge of a bunker. After hitting his iron shot toward the green, the American lost his footing, slipped, and ended up flat on his stomach. The two-time major winner then struggled to get up as his feet repeatedly slid on the sand. His shot ultimately landed in another bunker, compounding the mishap.
Social Media Erupts with Mockery
The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, with many fans using DeChambeau's misfortune to poke fun at LIV Golf. One user quipped, 'If you fall in a LIV golf tournament does it count because no one is around to see it?' Another added, 'Well isn't that just LIV Golf summed up in one clip?' A third commented, 'My word this looks awful. You just know he wishes he was at Sawgrass [at The Players].'
DeChambeau shot a one-over-par 72 during his third round in Singapore, leaving him in a tie for third place, just one shot behind leaders Joaquin Niemann and Lee Westwood.
Contrasting Events: Tragedy Strikes PGA Tour
Meanwhile, in Florida, a tragic incident overshadowed The Players Championship. Two people were shot and killed near the tournament venue before the gunman escaped onto the TPC Sawgrass course, prompting a manhunt across Northeast Florida.
According to St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick, the suspect, identified as Christian Barrios, was arrested. Barrios allegedly shot two people multiple times at approximately 10:30 PM on Friday in the parking lot of a Walgreens, in what Hardwick described as a domestic violence situation. The store is located about a mile from the course and less than 1,000 feet from other PGA Tour properties.
The victims succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital, Hardwick told reporters. Their names have not yet been released. Authorities say Barrios was captured at about 8 AM on Saturday in Nassau County, approximately an hour north of TPC Sawgrass.
Although no one on the course was injured and the suspect had been apprehended, tournament officials delayed opening the gates for the third round of play on Saturday. The PGA cited 'operational considerations' in deciding not to open the gates until 9 AM. The round did begin on schedule at 8:15 AM, although hospitality areas were delayed opening until 11 AM.
