Bryson DeChambeau's round at The Open unravelled dramatically on the 11th hole, where he was forced to take an unplayable lie down the left side. The resulting triple-bogey seven dropped him to two under par, with his tournament story now dominated by the punishing fescue rough.
Scheffler's Troubles Mount
Shortly after, world number one Scottie Scheffler appeared to be losing his composure. On the 17th hole, with his ball sitting up just in front of a bunker in the mounds left of the fairway, he considered hitting driver off the deck. He opted instead for a fairway wood but yanked his ball towards the hospitality suites left of the green, possibly behind them. Taking a provisional, he repeated the same mistake, sending another ball left.
As one observer noted, "It can happen to the best of them, and it’s just happened to Bryson and Scottie in short order. Open Sunday, everyone!"
