Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has responded to Manchester City being found guilty of 114 of 115 charges relating to alleged financial breaches between 2009 and 2018 by cheekily asking what that means for his tally of Premier League titles. The 35-year-old Spaniard won the league with United in 2013 but also finished runner-up to City in 2012, 2018 and 2021.
City have consistently denied any wrongdoing since the 115 charges were brought against them by the Premier League in 2023. Although sanctions are yet to be decided, De Gea has quipped about how City potentially being stripped of their titles could benefit his list of major honours.
Posting on X, De Gea said: “So…… Let’s talk. How many Premier League titles have I won then?”
De Gea's United legacy
The 35-year-old spent 12 years with United, making 545 appearances and winning the FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League and Premier League. After spending a year out of football, he signed for Fiorentina in 2024 and continues to be first-choice for the Italian side.
In a statement, City said: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality. As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the Club’s statement of February 2023.”
United sign starlet from City
United have completed the signing of midfielder David Eze from City. The Manchester Evening News reported that the move was close to being finalised in July. The 16-year-old has signed a deal that also includes a pre-professional contract, ensuring he will be on pro terms once he turns 17.
The teenage midfielder is the latest City player to make the switch to Old Trafford, arriving just days after fellow youngster Karrim Cassim. A United club statement read: "Talented youngster David Eze has joined Manchester United. The central midfielder has joined the club after leaving Manchester City.
"The 16-year-old, who progressed through the academy system at City, has also been capped by England at youth level. Everyone wishes David the best of luck at United and welcomes him to the club."
