Luke Littler has been urged to avoid the pitfalls of fame and fortune by darts legend Bobby George. The 80-year-old 'King of Bling' offered frank advice to the teenage sensation after Littler won his second straight World Darts Championship, beating Gian van Veen 7-1 and pocketing £1m.
George, who earned just £16,000 as runner-up at the 1994 BDO World Championship, warned Littler about the dangers of sudden wealth. 'Don't grow up. You'll never be skint if you don't grow up. No girls, no flash cars, no hangers-on. Just do your f***ing thing and have your bubble gum,' he told the Daily Mail.
Littler's career prize money now stands at £3.3m, but he insists becoming back-to-back world champion is more important than the cash. 'I said yesterday, I can't buy a new car yet. I'll have to get a year on the insurance before changing that one,' he said.
The Warrington prodigy returns to action with World Series events in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia later this month, followed by the Premier League campaign starting in Newcastle on February 5.
