Newcastle United have dismissed suggestions that Dan Burn could be sold to Aston Villa, following reports linking the 6ft 7in England international with a move to Unai Emery's side.
The 34-year-old defender is entering the final year of his current contract, but the Magpies hold an option to extend his deal until 2028, which would likely see Burn finish his career at St James' Park.
Burn, who rose from Blyth Spartans' youth ranks through Darlington, Yeovil, Birmingham, Fulham and Brighton before joining Newcastle for £13million in 2022, impressed for England at the World Cup this summer. However, his fairytale campaign ended in heartbreak as Argentina knocked out the Three Lions on Wednesday.
Manager Eddie Howe previously described Burn as 'an inspiring guy and a very talented player', noting his remarkable journey from non-league to international football. Burn also scored a memorable header against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.
With experienced players like Jamaal Lascelles, Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali having left in recent months, Newcastle are keen to retain Burn, whose importance was highlighted during his World Cup stint.
