Diogo Dalot has backed Kobbie Mainoo to emerge stronger after being frozen out by former Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim. The England midfielder came close to leaving Old Trafford on loan to Napoli in January before Amorim's sacking revived his prospects.
Mainoo, 20, had grown frustrated after being overlooked for months by Amorim, who was dismissed last month. Dalot, speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, believes the difficult period will ultimately benefit his teammate.
“That just shows that in football, no matter the manager that you have, you have to work the same way,” Dalot said. “For Kobbie, he could have gone the other way... I think it will benefit him for the future. He will not take for granted playing week in, week out.”
Dalot himself remained a regular under Amorim despite facing criticism from supporters. The full-back admitted it has become harder to ignore negative noise online but stressed the importance of learning to deal with it over a long career.
