Chelsea Defender Marc Cucurella Confesses Barcelona Offer Would Be 'Hard to Turn Down'
Marc Cucurella, the Chelsea full-back, has openly admitted that a potential transfer offer from Barcelona would be extremely difficult to reject. The Spanish international made these revealing comments while on international duty with Spain, ahead of their friendly match against Egypt at Barcelona's iconic Camp Nou stadium.
Camp Nou Setting Sparks Transfer Speculation
The 27-year-old defender, who is set to feature for Spain in Tuesday night's friendly, was directly questioned about whether he would find it challenging to decline an approach from Barcelona. "If those situations arrive, they are difficult to reject," Cucurella stated candidly. "I would have to consider it. It's not just me, I also have to think about my family. Between all of us, we would decide what is best for us."
Cucurella, who originally came through Barcelona's prestigious La Masia academy but never made a senior appearance for the club, emphasized that he remains "very happy" at Chelsea. "You always think about going back [to Spain]," he acknowledged. "I'm very happy there [at Chelsea], and so is my family. I'll leave it for a few years from now."
Cucurella's Chelsea Commitment and Performance
The Spanish left-back, who joined Chelsea from Brighton in a substantial £60 million transfer back in 2022, has established himself as a key player for the Blues this season. Cucurella has made an impressive 41 appearances across all competitions, demonstrating his importance to the squad despite the ongoing speculation about his future.
Cucurella is the latest Chelsea player to address questions about his club future during the current international break. While midfielder Moises Caicedo has reaffirmed his commitment to Chelsea, fellow midfielder Enzo Fernandez has once again cast doubt on his own Stamford Bridge future.
Enzo Fernandez Hints at Potential Madrid Move
Enzo Fernandez, the Argentine midfielder who joined Chelsea in a massive £108 million move in 2023, has previously expressed uncertainty about his future following Chelsea's Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain. Fernandez has now further fueled speculation by revealing his admiration for Madrid during a livestream with Argentine channel SpiderCARP.
When asked which other city he would like to live in, Fernandez responded: "Madrid... I like Madrid very much... it's similar to Buenos Aires." This comment follows his previous criticism of Chelsea's board for sacking former manager Enzo Maresca, which he claimed "hurt" the squad in what appeared to be a thinly-veiled dig at new head coach Liam Rosenior.
The combination of Cucurella's admission about Barcelona and Fernandez's apparent interest in Madrid creates a significant narrative of potential departures from Chelsea, highlighting the ongoing challenges the club faces in retaining key players amidst intense transfer speculation.
