Bournemouth Manager Andoni Iraola to Depart as Premier League Clubs Circle
Bournemouth have officially announced that manager Andoni Iraola will leave the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer, sparking immediate interest from rival Premier League sides. The Spaniard, 43, confirmed his departure after three years at the Vitality Stadium, where he guided the Cherries to their joint-highest Premier League finish last season.
Crystal Palace Emerge as Leading Contenders for Iraola's Signature
Crystal Palace are reportedly lining up an ambitious move for the outgoing Bournemouth boss, positioning themselves as favourites to secure his services. Current Palace manager Oliver Glasner is also set to leave when his deal expires in June, creating a vacancy that Iraola could fill. The Sun reports that Palace have registered their interest, aiming to capitalise on Iraola's availability.
Manchester United have previously shown interest in Iraola during their search for a new manager, but the race appears to be led by Crystal Palace and Athletic Bilbao. Iraola's impressive work at Bournemouth, coupled with his tenure at former club Rayo Vallecano, has made him a highly sought-after figure in football management.
Emotional Return to Athletic Bilbao Looms Large
Athletic Bilbao are considered frontrunners to land Iraola's signature, offering an emotional return to the Basque region where he grew up supporting the club, played over 500 times, and served as captain. With Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde departing in two months and no replacement confirmed, a homecoming for Iraola seems a compelling prospect.
In a statement, Iraola expressed gratitude for his time at Bournemouth: "It has been an honour to manage AFC Bournemouth and I am proud of what we have achieved together. I'm thankful to the players and staff that I've worked with, as well as Bill, who have all made my time here so special." He added that it feels like the "right moment" to step away, though he will cherish the memories.
Bournemouth Identify Potential Replacements Amid Managerial Search
As Iraola prepares to exit, Bournemouth have begun identifying replacements, with ex-RB Leipzig, Borussia Dortmund, and Borussia Monchengladbach manager Marco Rose linked to the role. Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has also been mentioned, though he dismissed speculation on Tuesday, stating: "I've got nothing to say on that. I've got no interest in discussing or thinking about that at the moment."
Bournemouth owner Bill Foley was keen for Iraola to stay, but the manager's decision opens a new chapter for both parties. The Cherries will now focus on securing a successor to build on Iraola's legacy, which includes a ninth-place Premier League finish that matched the club's best ever performance.
