Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has dismissed Micah Parsons' public trade request as typical negotiation rhetoric, insisting the team will not trade the star defensive end. Speaking after practice on Saturday, Jones said, 'Surely you guys have been around this stuff and know how to recognise negotiation talk.'
Parsons, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract, posted on social media on Friday requesting a trade, citing a breakdown in contract extension talks. The 25-year-old has yet to practice due to a back injury but remains at training camp. Jones compared the situation to past disputes with players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, as well as Emmitt Smith's holdout in 1993.
Jones claimed the two sides had reached an agreement during spring discussions, but Parsons disagreed, stating the Cowboys had refused to engage his agent. 'The key is that we've got an agreement,' Jones said. 'Micah took it off. He took it off.' The owner expects negotiations to resume based on that framework.
Teammates have rallied behind Parsons, with wide receiver CeeDee Lamb posting 'Just pay the man' on social media. Fans also voiced support, chanting 'Let's pay Micah!' at the end of Saturday's practice. Jones expressed confidence the issue will be resolved, saying, 'Don't lose any sleep over it.'
