Chelsea Face Summer Battle to Keep Cole Palmer

Chelsea are facing a significant challenge to retain the services of their star player Cole Palmer this summer, with the 23-year-old reportedly growing increasingly disillusioned with life at Stamford Bridge and actively pushing for a transfer. According to recent reports, Palmer's frustration has escalated, prompting him to consider his options away from west London.

Palmer's Season and Chelsea's Struggles

Despite a frustrating start to the season marred by injury problems, Palmer has re-established himself as a regular in the Chelsea side under manager Liam Rosenior. In the 2025/26 campaign, he has made 25 appearances, contributing 10 goals and three assists, showcasing his importance to the team. However, Chelsea's recent form has taken a dramatic downturn, with four consecutive defeats including a humiliating 8-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and setbacks in the Premier League against Everton and Newcastle.

These results have left Chelsea in sixth place in the Premier League, risking missing out on Champions League qualification. This potential failure could make it difficult for the club to hold onto key players like Palmer, who is under contract until 2033 but is now said to be 'increasingly disillusioned' and 'primed to leave' in the upcoming transfer window.

Interest from Top European Clubs

Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich are all reportedly interested in signing Palmer, with a potential transfer fee rumored to be around £150 million. A move to Manchester United has been previously speculated, although the club is understood to be prioritizing reinforcements in central midfield and on the left wing. Palmer's unhappiness is partly attributed to tactical changes under Rosenior and the absence of Nicolas Jackson, who was loaned to Bayern Munich at the start of the season. Palmer had developed a strong on-field connection with Jackson last season and has not replicated that synergy with current teammates Joao Pedro or Liam Delap.

Rosenior's Stance on Palmer's Future

Despite the mounting speculation, Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has consistently insisted that Palmer is not for sale. In January, Rosenior stated, "Is he untouchable, is he happy? Yes and yes. It’s simple, Cole Palmer is an incredible player like many players in the group. Cole is here, he’s very happy and I can’t wait to see him back on the pitch." He emphasized his close relationship with the players, including Palmer and Enzo Fernandez, who has also been linked with a move away.

Rosenior added, "In terms of contracts and where they want to be, there's not one player at this club since I've been here that has said that he doesn't want to be here in the summer. In fact, the conversations are more about how we improve, what we can do as a group to improve, what we need to do to win in this moment. And that's where we are at the moment."

However, with Palmer's reported dissatisfaction and interest from top clubs, Chelsea may need to brace for a summer of uncertainty as they aim to keep their prized asset amidst growing transfer rumors.
