Harry Cobden will replace Nico de Boinville on Jonbon in Saturday’s BetMGM Clarence House Chase at Ascot, after De Boinville suffered a heavy fall at Cheltenham. Cobden, recently announced as JP McManus’s new retained jockey from May, will partner the Nicky Henderson-trained gelding.
Cobden, 27, was champion jump jockey in Britain in 2023-24 and has been number one to Paul Nicholls. He will take on the role previously held by Sir AP McCoy and Barry Geraghty, with Mark Walsh stepping away in Ireland.
De Boinville, who has ridden Jonbon in 11 of his 13 starts, is due to resume riding at Haydock on Saturday, where he will partner the novice hurdler Old Park Star. Jonbon faces a rematch with Willie Mullins’ Il Etait Temps after losing to him in the Tingle Creek Chase.
