Daniel Farke has promised that Leeds United supporters will 'take over London' following their dramatic FA Cup quarter-final victory over West Ham United. The match ended 2-2 after extra time, with Leeds winning 4-2 on penalties to secure a first semi-final berth since 1987.
Leeds appeared to be cruising to an easy win at the London Stadium, but West Ham forced extra time with stoppage-time goals from Mateus Fernandes and Axel Disasi. Goalkeeper Lucas Perri then saved spot-kicks from Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Felipe to send Farke's side through.
Reflecting on the celebrations in front of 9,000 travelling fans, Farke said he felt 'pretty humble' and acknowledged the club's long wait for a semi-final. 'The last semi-final was in the 80s and this club has gone through difficult decades,' he added, noting that more than 30,000 supporters are expected for the clash with Chelsea.
Despite taking four points off Chelsea this season, Farke insisted Leeds are underdogs. 'We are just a promoted side. Chelsea is a top team with top players and we need an extraordinary day and an outstanding performance,' he said.
West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo, meanwhile, turned his focus to Premier League survival after what he called a 'sad ending' to the cup run. He must lift his players before they host Wolves on Friday, admitting: 'Tonight will be tough. But I tell the players let's be ready for the fight.'
