Chelsea secured a vital 2-1 victory over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, with goals from Enzo Fernández and Andrey Santos. The result leaves Spurs needing a point from their final match against Everton to guarantee Premier League survival, while Chelsea boosted their hopes of a Europa League finish.
Fernández opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a powerful 25-yard strike that beat goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. The Argentine, deployed on the left wing by interim manager Calum McFarlane, also hit the crossbar with a free-kick before halftime. Santos doubled Chelsea's lead early in the second half, finishing first-time after Fernández's cushioned pass from a Pedro Neto cross.
Spurs rallied late through Richarlison's 74th-minute goal, setting up a tense finale. Substitute James Maddison came closest to an equalizer, but was denied by a Jorrel Hato challenge. There was controversy when Micky van de Ven appealed for a penalty after being wrestled to the ground by Marc Cucurella from a corner, but referee Stuart Attwell ruled the offence occurred before the ball was in play.
Tottenham's defeat extends their miserable record at Stamford Bridge, where they have won only once since 1990. Manager Roberto De Zerbi's side now face a decisive final-day clash against Everton, needing a point to avoid relegation. Chelsea, meanwhile, moved closer to securing European football under McFarlane, who is keeping the seat warm for incoming manager Xabi Alonso.
