Tonali opens up on Spurs move
Sandro Tonali has admitted he wanted to return to Italy this summer but said joining Tottenham was his best solution. He said: "I spoke with my wife, this was the first thing. We wanted to change our life but not just for the city, we wanted to change everything. We spoke with two clubs. We had decided to come back to Italy but it was impossible for the money. England was our solution and we found the best solution in England for me, for my career, for my football, for my happiness, for my family. I spoke with two teams. I understood after 10, 15 minutes that Tottenham would be my next team."
Spurs injury concerns
Mateus Fernandes was left out of Tottenham's pre-season game against Sydney FC due to fatigue in his calf muscle. "Mateus Fernandes can be available right now to play but we don't want to take any risks with him," Roberto De Zerbi said on Friday. Micky van de Ven has linked up with the squad after playing for the Netherlands at the World Cup but has not featured in a pre-season game this month. "Micky van de Ven also feels fatigue, but nothing important," De Zerbi added.
Pre-season form
Chelsea's first pre-season fixture under Xabi Alonso was a 6-4 win against Western Sydney Wanderers on Tuesday, with Joao Pedro scoring a second-half hat-trick in nine minutes after coming off the bench. Tottenham have played three pre-season games, beating MK Dons 1-0, beating A-League champions Auckland FC 2-0 with goals from Dane Scarlett and Richarlison, and drawing 1-1 with Sydney FC before winning on penalties.
Nicolas Jackson has returned to Chelsea training after Senegal's World Cup campaign, and Moises Caicedo has also linked back up with the squad after playing for Ecuador.
