Manchester United could be in line for a surprise financial boost this summer, with Chelsea reportedly willing to sell Alejandro Garnacho just 12 months after signing him from Old Trafford.
The Argentina international joined Chelsea last summer in a deal worth £40 million, but has struggled to make an impact, scoring only eight goals across all competitions, with just one in the Premier League. According to The Sun, Chelsea are now prepared to offload the winger on a permanent basis.
United inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the transfer agreement, meaning they would pocket £4 million if Chelsea manage to secure the reported asking price of £40 million. Journalist Simon Phillips has also indicated that Chelsea are targeting a fee in that region, though no specific clubs have been linked.
Former Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge has offered advice to Garnacho, suggesting he may need guidance to fulfil his potential. "Sometimes I look at players with that much potential and wonder if they just need an old head or a father figure to work on the mental side," Bridge told football.london.
Garnacho's future at Stamford Bridge has been in doubt since Xabi Alonso replaced Liam Rosenior as manager in April. With the summer transfer window approaching, United will be monitoring developments closely as they stand to benefit from any sale.
