Chelsea have reportedly asked Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to postpone his medical with Brighton as they consider a late move for the Leicester City midfielder. The Blues have made an enquiry about the 25-year-old, disrupting a deal that was close to completion with the Seagulls.
New Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who worked with Dewsbury-Hall at Leicester, has identified the Englishman as a key target for the summer rebuild. Dewsbury-Hall impressed last season with 12 goals and 14 assists in the Championship, attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.
Brighton had agreed a fee with Leicester that would have seen Jakub Moder move to the King Power Stadium as part of the deal. However, according to Polish outlet Meczyki, Chelsea have told Dewsbury-Hall to delay his medical while they discuss a potential transfer.
Maresca has stepped in at the last minute to speak with the playmaker, putting the Brighton deal in jeopardy. Moder is still keen to join Leicester regardless, though that could now be a separate transaction.
Leicester are looking to offload players before 1 July to avoid Profit and Sustainability Rules issues, which could accelerate negotiations. If Chelsea proceed, Conor Gallagher—who has two years left on his contract and attracted interest from Tottenham and Aston Villa—could be the one to make way.
