Celtic scored a dramatic injury-time penalty to beat Motherwell 3-2, setting up a final-day Scottish Premiership title decider against leaders Hearts. Kelechi Iheanacho converted the spot-kick after a VAR handball decision, sending the away fans into raptures.
Title Race Goes to the Wire
The two sides are separated by just one point before their clash at Celtic Park on Saturday. Hearts have topped the table since September, pursuing their first title in 66 years and aiming to become the first non-Glasgow side to win the league since Aberdeen in 1985.
Hearts need only a draw to secure the championship, while Celtic must win to claim their 56th title. Derek McInnes' side thrashed Falkirk 3-0 on Wednesday, with goals from Frankie Kent, Cammy Devlin, and Blair Spittal, to keep the pressure on Celtic.
Dramatic Night at Fir Park
Motherwell took the lead through Elliot Watt, but Daizen Maeda equalised for Celtic. Benjamin Nygren then smashed in a 20-yard effort to give Celtic the lead. However, Liam Gordon's 85th-minute equaliser for Motherwell seemed to hand Hearts the title. But Iheanacho's penalty in stoppage time changed everything.
Celtic's season has been turbulent, with Martin O'Neill returning in January after Brendan Rodgers' bitter exit and Wilfried Nancy's disastrous eight-game spell. O'Neill has led a remarkable recovery to keep the title race alive.
Hearts boss Derek McInnes said: "I've just assumed Celtic are going to win the game. I've had it in my head that we're going to the last game." The stage is set for a thrilling finale at Celtic Park on Saturday at 12:30 PM.
