Manchester United Extend Winning Run with Convincing Victory Over Tottenham

Interim manager Michael Carrick has expressed satisfaction with the team's collective effort and unity following Manchester United's latest Premier League triumph, a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. The win represents United's fourth consecutive league success, their first such streak in two years, propelling them to fourth place in the table with 44 points.

Carrick Cautious Despite Dream Start

Carrick, who took over following Ruben Amorim's departure earlier this year, has overseen impressive wins against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham, and now Spurs. Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes secured a deserved victory against the ten-man visitors. However, the former United midfielder remains grounded, refusing to believe the team has "cracked it" despite the positive momentum.

"I'm pleased with the buy-in, connection and everyone's invested in it," Carrick stated. "I think that goes a long way. But we're not getting carried away. I'm not sitting here thinking 'everything's great, we've cracked it'. There's a lot of work to do."

He praised the team's adaptability, noting that each of the four victories has required different tactical approaches, from controlling possession to demonstrating patience and quality in key moments.

Romero's Recklessness Proves Costly for Spurs

The match turned decisively in the 29th minute when Tottenham captain Cristian Romero received a straight red card for a dangerous challenge on Casemiro. Romero later apologised to his teammates in the dressing room for the incident, which manager Thomas Frank defended as an attempt to play the ball.

This marks Romero's sixth red card in all competitions since joining Tottenham in August 2021, a tally higher than any other Premier League player during that period. Frank expressed surprise at the statistic but affirmed his support for Romero, stating he has no regrets about naming him captain and will not reconsider that decision.

Spurs' Struggles Continue Amid Injury Crisis

Tottenham's defeat extends their winless run in the Premier League to seven matches, leaving them still searching for their first league victory of 2026. The team faces further challenges with Romero now serving a four-match ban and defender Destiny Udogie potentially sidelined through injury.

Frank acknowledged the team's resilience in recent performances but emphasised the need for improved results. "We haven't won enough in the Premier League," he admitted. "The performances need to be backed up by doing a little bit more and keep doing the right things because then the results will turn."

The manager had previously criticised the squad's depth on social media, describing it as "disgraceful," highlighting ongoing issues at the club as they prepare to host Newcastle United in their next fixture.
