Carrick gives Man United injury update before Roma clash

Michael Carrick has provided an update on Manchester United's injury list ahead of Tuesday's Europa League clash with Roma at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are desperate for a win as pressure mounts on the head coach during a difficult run of form.

Injury news and team updates

United have been dealing with persistent injuries this season as they try to recover from their worst start in 40 years. Kobbie Mainoo returned from the bench at the weekend, while Patrick Dorgu has returned to team training after a hamstring issue. Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford remain sidelined with muscle and hip problems.

Speaking about Dorgu's return, Carrick said: "It's great to have him back. He's worked ever so hard to be back with the group, but he won't be involved tomorrow. We'll see how he progresses through the week."

Yoro fitness concern

There was concern when fans spotted Leny Yoro wearing strapping on his knee during open training on Monday morning. Carrick addressed the issue, saying: "Leny has had a bit of a tendon [issue], it's one of them that comes and goes. But he's been fine and I've been delighted with him."

Neither Shaw nor Rashford will feature against Roma, with both England internationals not training with their teammates. Carrick added: "Luke definitely won't be around this week and fit at that point. Marcus, we'll just have to see, day by day, how he keeps improving."

Pressure mounting

United are on a run of nine games without a victory in all competitions, stretching back to a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at the end of August. That remains their only Premier League victory so far, with their only other win coming against Sabah in the Champions League on matchday one.

The poor run includes three straight defeats, with heavy losses to Como (4-1) and Bournemouth (3-0). Last time out, Carrick's ten men were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge after Lisandro Martinez was sent off. United return to Premier League action this weekend when they host Aston Villa.
