Carrick explains shock Yoro call for United vs Tottenham

Leny Yoro looks set to start at right-back in Manchester United's Premier League clash with Tottenham, with Michael Carrick citing the game plan for the decision.

With Noussair Mazraoui ruled out through injury, Diogo Dalot was expected to fill in at right-back. The Portugal international has started all but one of United's domestic games this season, playing the full 90 minutes in their previous three outings.

However, Dalot has dropped to the bench for Saturday's match, with Yoro set to start at right-back. Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez will start at centre-back, with Luke Shaw on the left.

Carrick explains Yoro selection

Asked by Sky Sports to explain why Yoro had been brought into the starting XI, Carrick said: "Leny has done really well, he's had a fantastic pre-season and he's at that stage of his career now to make the next step. He made his debut for France in midweek, which is a fantastic achievement, and he fully deserved it."

"We just feel with the game today, the things we want to do, it suits him so we're looking forward to seeing him play."

Amad returns to starting lineup

Amad makes his first start of the season having recovered from an injury picked up in pre-season. On the Ivory Coast international being back and available for selection, Carrick said: "We're obviously delighted. He's a big part of the group, Amad, he offers us an awful lot so it's good to have him back."

"Unfortunately when he picked up an injury he was looking really good in pre-season but he's had a longer break now that has enabled us to get him back to his best."

United look to bounce back

United will be looking to get back to winning ways against Spurs. They narrowly avoided defeat to Fulham in the game before the international break but have won just one of their five league games so far this term.

Spurs have endured an even worse start to the campaign. They are bottom of the Premier League table having won none of their five games, conceding eight goals in the process.
