Michael Carrick could turn to Manchester United youngsters Shea Lacey and Jack Moorhouse for the Premier League clash against Tottenham on Saturday. The interim manager has shown a strong commitment to youth since taking over, with both players pushing for first-team opportunities.
Lacey, 18, made his senior debut under previous boss Ruben Amorim in December against Aston Villa and has been an unused substitute in eight matches this season. He impressed in brief outings against Villa, Burnley and Brighton in the FA Cup, earning applause from supporters after receiving a yellow card against Brighton.
Jack Moorhouse, meanwhile, trained with the senior squad this week after returning from a loan spell at Leyton Orient on deadline day. An injury in midfield could open the door for his debut against Tottenham.
Carrick has prioritised integrating academy talent, bringing back Habeeb Ogunneye from loan and reintegrating Joe Hugill into first-team training. He has also attended youth matches regularly, signalling a clear pathway to the senior side. “This club needs young players coming through and being the foundation, to understand what it means,” Carrick said.
United have won all three Premier League fixtures under Carrick, against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham, and sit fourth in the table. They host Tottenham on Saturday at 12:30pm, looking to extend their unbeaten run.
