Carrick arrives at Carrington but Man United future unclear
Carrick arrives at Carrington but future still unclear

Michael Carrick arrived at Carrington at 7.30am on Tuesday, following his usual routine in just over nine months as Manchester United head coach, but it remains unclear whether he will take training.

His players were set to report back on Tuesday morning for the first training session of the week, yet as of Monday evening, club officials were unable to confirm whether Carrick would be taking the session. The 45-year-old arrived in his training kit, giving the impression he would be in charge as he drove through the gates.

Crisis talks fail to reach conclusion

The uncertainty follows a day of crisis talks on Monday that appeared to have failed to reach a conclusion over Carrick's future. It was widely expected he would be sacked after Sunday's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

That loss followed the Champions League hammering in Como in midweek, leaving United without a win in eight games in all competitions and with just two victories from their first 12 matches this season.

Officials at Carrington

Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox arrived at Carrington just before 9am on Monday. Carrick then arrived at 1.50pm to watch the Under-21s play Hull City in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

Carrick watched the 2pm kick-off and left the training ground with his son Jacey, who is in the academy, at 5pm, around half an hour after Wilcox had departed. Despite all the activity on Monday, no firm decision was made on Carrick's future, leaving United unable to confirm who would take training.
