Nuno Espirito Santo Steering West Ham Away from Relegation After Tough Start

West Ham United have shown signs of revival under manager Nuno Espirito Santo, securing back-to-back Premier League victories against Burnley and Newcastle United. The wins, achieved at the London Stadium for the first time since October 2024, have lifted the club out of the relegation zone after a difficult opening to the campaign.

Following a run of four matches without victory at the start of his tenure, Nuno appears to have steadied the ship. The squad has displayed increased cohesion and attacking fluency, scoring six goals in the last two games compared to just seven in the previous nine outings. This newfound attacking efficiency has been driven by the improving form of Crysencio Summerville and Lucas Paqueta, while Jarrod Bowen remains a consistent force alongside striker Callum Wilson.

Nuno has also found a reliable midfield combination, naming an unchanged lineup for the last two fixtures after earlier criticism for excessive rotation. Academy graduate Freddie Potts has become a fan favourite, while Mateus Fernandes, signed from Southampton for £42 million, is adapting well, with only Paqueta registering more tackles and interceptions.

Defensive concerns persist, however, as West Ham conceded another headed goal against Burnley, and goalkeeper Alphonse Areola has been shaky, spilling the ball into the path of Josh Cullen for the opposition's last-minute strike. The team faces a challenging run after the international break, with matches against Bournemouth, Liverpool, and Manchester United.

Nevertheless, the resilience shown in coming from behind to win consecutive games has earned praise and boosted morale. Nuno still has work to do, but the signs of togetherness and progress suggest West Ham are moving in the right direction.
