Jamie Carragher aimed a fresh jibe at Alexis Mac Allister for an incident with Rayan Cherki during Liverpool's defeat to Manchester City. Second half goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Cherki sealed the points following a red card for Ryan Gravenberch.
Flashpoint in the First Half
Despite all the major talking points coming in the second 45 minutes of the Premier League clash at Anfield, there was still plenty of drama. The biggest flashpoint actually involved Mac Allister after he tried to swiftly get the ball off Elliot Anderson after he fouled Lewis Koumas.
A brief brawl then broke out between the two sets of players with Milos Kerkez and Ruben Dias also at the centre of it. Mac Allister was then involved in another incident occurred mid-way through the first half as he looked to win a foul off Cherki.
Carragher's Criticism
However, referee Chris Kavanagh waved away his appeals and the loss off possession resulted in a counter-attack for City with Carragher making his feelings perfectly clear.
He angrily said: "Average game from Mac Allister going down for something, referee does well." This is not the first time that Carragher has taken aim at the Argentine with Liverpool's former defender taking aim at his comments on a new contract and previous antics on the pitch.
Previous Incidents
The Mac Allister anger from Carragher against City was on a different level during a game against Aston Villa last season. After an incident with Ezri Konsa that left Mac Allister on the floor, Carragher said "Honest to God. Honest to God. He goes down every game Mac Allister with something round his ankle normally not like that."
"It's embarrassing. Just get up. Honestly. It would be embarrassing if they sent Konsa off for that. Mac Allister must know we all look at the replays. We can all see what Konsa has done. He knows he can't get away with it."
City's Win and Off-Pitch Cloud
Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong have also felt Carragher's wrath in the past and that continued on Sunday with criticism aimed at the latter for his attempts to stop Cherki's goal and demanding Wirtz be taken off.
He was ultimately substituted following Gravenberch's red card and Haaland's opening goal. Stunning strikes from Doku and Cherki then sealed the points for City.
However, there is a cloud over any wins Enzo Maresca's side pick up from this point going forward following their guilty verdict over 114 financial breaches.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville said: "That's the problem for the league this season, Manchester City are an outstanding team but if they don't overturn this guilty verdict, these points will be taken off them. This is the cloud that hangs over the entirety of the game."
The Anfield crowd also made their feelings clear as they game petered out by chanting in unison, "cheats", with Neville making a prediction for the remainder of the season.
He said: "The feeling is that one could catch on, across the grounds until a punishment does come in." The process for an appeal and sanctions hearing has already commenced with City and other Premier League teams awaiting the final outcome.
