Carragher Warns Simeone Would Be Problematic for Man Utd

Jamie Carragher has warned that Diego Simeone's potential appointment as Manchester United manager would conflict with the club's traditional DNA, drawing parallels to the issues faced by Ruben Amorim at other clubs. The Atletico Madrid boss has been mentioned as a candidate to replace Michael Carrick, who is currently serving as interim manager at Old Trafford.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football, Carragher argued that Simeone's defensive style would contradict United's attacking ethos. 'That goes away from a club's DNA because he is a defensive coach,' Carragher said. He added that clubs must not hire a manager for their success and then ask them to change their approach.

Carragher also identified Luis Enrique as the ideal candidate for United, but doubted they would secure him. Instead, he predicted Thomas Tuchel would be the likely permanent appointment. Thierry Henry, also on the show, emphasised the need for United to have a clear vision before selecting a manager.

United are expected to appoint a permanent successor to Carrick at the end of the season, with names like Thomas Tuchel, Eddie Howe, and Roberto De Zerbi also linked to the role.
